The Food of Nations

Very interesting video, these days all people talk about are fats and protein, but all pupulations of trim, healthy people, throughout verifiable human history, have obtained the bulk of their calories from starch.

http://www.drmcdougall.com/video/starch_solution.html

edit: the more he talks, the more his fanatical standpoint gets revealed. I disagree with him here on many points, but the take home point is don't be afraid of starches.

Re: Starches are GOOD!

We need fat, starch and protein. It's as simple as that.

Re: Starches are GOOD!

Yes, we need them all. McDougall is an extremist, but he brought up some good points to defend starches. I especially liked the historical perspective and the scientific fact that human beings produce 8 times more amylase than primates. These are goods arguments to use against the paleo fanatics who claim that we should eat like hunters and gatherers. When he is attacking the other nutrients though, I do not agree with him.
