    Narasimha Avatara time

    Dear Members

Can anyone tell how many days did Narasimha lived in this world before returning to Vaikuntha? Ahobilam is birth place of Narasimha and there are 9 narasimha temples there with each having different history. One of them was teaching Prahalada about vedas and upanishads. It is said that he used to live there and married Chengavalli thaiyar ( mahalakshmi) from forest tribe and lived there for some time.

    Namaste,

I don't have anything to quote from, but believe Lord Narasimha lived before Satyuga. It was an ascending cycle of yuga-s, that is, the Yuga-s were moving towards Satyuga. Lord came to give the movement the necessary fillip. This is from the internal evidence and consistency of written or practised Hinduism, if not objectively evidenced by more modern tools of inquiry.

For a long time I thought Narasimha to be a purely mythological figure. But interactions with great Vaishnava-s on such online forums made me learn and understand the historicity and continued presence of His essence.

In South of India lies hidden the very first layers of Dharma.

Veda-s are eternal, but still needed to be recorded at some later stage in the immortal language- Sanskrit, in all practicality.

Today even though the life (lives) of Lord Narasimha got recorded in Sanskrit, I believe He might have existed even before the language came into being formalised by the Astika-s.

    Shri Ram,

    KT.
    Things to remember:

    1. Life = yajña
    2. Depth of Āstika knowledge is directly proportional
to the richness of Sanskrit it is written in
    3. Āstika = Bhārata ("east") / Ārya ("west")
    4. Varṇa = tripartite division of Vedic polity
    5. r = c. x²
    where,
    r = realisation
    constant c = intelligence
    variable x = bhakti
