karthikeya is said to be the sixth face of of shiva.ofcourse the god doesn't have any real family or son but karthikeya and ganesha are considered as his sons...

    Namaste Yajvan Ji,

Very beautiful reply. Exactly what I would have liked to write, but you wrote in such a beautiful style.

    Namah Shivay
When the light has risen, there is no day, no night, neither existence nor non-existence; Siva alone is there. That is the eternal, the adorable light of Savitri, - and the ancient wisdom proceeded thence (Svetasvatara Upanishad IV-18). :)

    Namaste.

Nothing in Hinduism is without a reason. Also there is nothing that is not related with all the other things.

Shiva, Parvati, Ganesha and Murugan --belong to one realm each of the Four Realms (Loka-s). Together therefore they form the complete "package".

Their home is in the Mother's (PArvati) place where they come together, and this is when everything is auspicious.

Then there are other guests who come to pay their visits. They know each other, everyone knows here everyone else.

Other than Sri Vishnu, and the "You Know Who", all the other fundamental Adityas are also called Rudra-s. So yes in that way there is no limit to the no. of "family members" of Shiva Family.

Shiva is, as we know, known in two forms: one when He is alone, doing the tapasya (Yagya) for Sat (Sati) all the time (Sati goes--Yagya goes), and the other form--the family man Shiva.

I am not writing all this from any textual resource, rather, this is something that every Shaiva bhakta there on the ground is knowingly or unknowingly practising. What I can possibly add here is that this is very powerful, goes to the very roots of Vedic world, and is something that will keep Hinduism alive for still thousands of years to come.

There is no need whatsoever to discuss such things, out of it what good can possibly come?
    Things to remember:

    1. Life = yajña
    2. Depth of Āstika knowledge is directly proportional
to the richness of Sanskrit it is written in
    3. Āstika = Bhārata ("east") / Ārya ("west")
    4. Varṇa = tripartite division of Vedic polity
    5. r = c. x²
    where,
    r = realisation
    constant c = intelligence
    variable x = bhakti

    Namaste V360,

The answer to your question lies with Yajvan's enigmatic and uplifting response.

Interesting.Putting the Puranas aside for a moment,do the Vedas/Upanishads mention about Rudra-Shiva's children(is there any reference about Ganesh or Skanda mentioned as his children)?

Please consider this as a personal view.

If we talk about RgVeda alone, Rudra, Agni and AsviniKumar point to the same divinities as Shiva, Ganesha and Kumar (Murugan), respectively.
    Veda uses its own framework.
Some believe a study of its Sanskrit or even mere chanting/ listening is good enough-- all of which are integral to its framework.

Purana-s, on the other hand, are another "take" on the same Hindu Dharma.

    Thanks for the reply.
I read that Rudra and Agni are related and often Agni is said to be one of the three eyes of Rudra.Could you elaborate on how Ganesha is associated with Agni and Skanda/Kumara with the Ashwini Twins?
