    Murthi of Snake Goddess?

    Namaste HDF,

I recently visited the Sri Vidya Temple (http://srividya.org/) in Rush, NY. I was only there for a short time, but when I was there I saw a small murthi of what looked to be a snake goddess. She had the body of a woman, but Her head was that of a cobra.

Anyone know who this Devi might be? I tried looking Her up on Google, but merely looking up "Hindu snake goddess" doesn't get me the desired result. I'm just idly curious.

    Namaste,

I could be wrong but the only thing I can think of is an alternative artistic representation of Goddess Manasa or Neta.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manasa

Devi Bhagavatam Purana : "Then comes the Manasa Devi, the daughter of Kasyapa. She is the dear disciple of Shankara (Lord Shiva) and is therefore very learned in matters of Shastras. She is the daughter of Ananta Deva, the Lord of Snakes and is very much respected by all the Nagas. She Herself is very beautiful, the Lady of the Nagas, the mother of the Nagas and is carried by them. She is decorated with ornaments of the Snakes; She is respected by the Nagendras (Lords of Snakes) and She sleeps on the bed of Snakes."

    It could also be Karumariamman:

I have little to no knowledge of these deities, as I am limited to understanding of Shesha. Whether these deities are linked you will have to do your own research.

    Namashkar,
I may be wrong.. but there is a goddess in the 64 Yoginis and her name is Sri Sarpashya.

update: do you see any similar features of this goddess and the one you've seen?

    Namaste Chakreshvari,

Yes! The image you posted on the far right is most like the murthi I saw. So I think this answers my question. Thanks!
