Namaskar Chrom,
I have never heard of trying to learn any Hymn or Chant with eyes closed, so I am not sure that is really a requirement per se, but maybe it is a tradition in your father's line? What works fore one person in learning anything new doesn't necessarily work for another. You have to learn it first, and you probably need your eyes to do that at the beginning.
This is a hymn read directly from the Rg Veda, a call and repeat video likely doesn't exist.
My method for learning any new hymn or mantra has been to download a recording of it, and then transcribe the words to paper. First I listen and read along, and sometimes just listen, to try and cement the words and pronunciation into my mind. Then I sing along as best as possible, checking pronunciation against my transcription when I can, if I need to. Once I get pretty good at it, I need the transcription and the recording less and less as time goes on.

This Site< appears to have some good resources for learning some Vedic Hymns, including the Purusha Suktam.
