    Re: Atheism: a secularized theism

As I see it, there is nothing new in the atheism of today. The atheistic arguments of today were put forward by Samkhyas, Charvakas, Buddhists and Jains in ancient India in a different form.

Indian society millenia ago underwent a lot of ferment with folks questioning the very basis of the Vedas. The Samkhyas, Charvakas and Buddhists (I am not sure about Jains) were quite effectively refuted in various commentaries of the Brahma Sutras by the Vedantic acharyas.

According to atleast one stream of thought (mostly communism) the Charvakas were also called as Lokayatakas, meaning those whose views were held by majority of the people. The theism of Vedanta probably made more sense to our ancestors leading to its resurgence.
