The Self- The Biggest Lie There Is

    Namaste.

As I was perusing issues of New Scientist, I came across a few articles that narrow the gap between science and metaphysics. Science is very close to discovering God.

I read the articles and I was very happy:

    Please read and enjoy.

    namaste dear Necromancer

But I could not find the connection between "The Self- The Biggest Lie There Is" and the links provided. Could you please explain it a little further?
    Things to remember:

    1. Life = yajña
    2. Depth of Āstika knowledge is directly proportional
to the richness of Sanskrit it is written in
    3. Āstika = Bhārata ("east") / Ārya ("west")
    4. Varṇa = tripartite division of Vedic polity
    5. r = c. x²
    where,
    r = realisation
    constant c = intelligence
    variable x = bhakti

Science is opening thinking to new ideas about reality, that are in line with knowledge of Hinduism.

I think "The Self- The Biggest Lie There Is" or "the great illusion of the self" may be great headlines, but also create new illusions.

I mean, if everything in creation is illusion than illusion is very real.

Re: The Self- The Biggest Lie There Is

I don't have a link to share for this I'm afraid, but I recently saw in a scientific article online, that the universe seems to grow in the same way that a brain cell does, and the two look very similar indeed.
This only strengthens my believe that we are all part of the same originator, if i can find the image again i will share it with you asap.
We're the same, You and I.

Re: The Self- The Biggest Lie There Is

    First I acknowledge My existence
Then, I reveal it more in various ways
I impart the transcendental shabda - the Veda
Then I allow more and more indulgence and self-centeredness as the Yugas progress
I smile as I watch Myself become a modern scientist and learn the Vedanta thanks to the global communication.
As a modern group of scientists I get cool ideas from Ved-Vedanta
I apply them in the labs I work hard
I come up with the same pinDa-bramhAnDa[*1] theory that I taught as being My nature yugas ago - this time in modern scientific language.
Then as a layman I read all the scientific reports and journals where MAyA has been encouraging the scientist to think - look, this is science not God,
As the layman encouraged further by MAyA I write the cover story heading:

"The Self: The biggest lie there is"

I wonder, how could I write such a thing about Myself ever??

I think I read a lot on Buddhism and Upanishads but still unable to figure out how Buddhists' definition of continuum of consciousness is not same as the 'Self' defined in Upanishads.

Re: The Self- The Biggest Lie There Is

Namaste and thank you all for the informative and enlightening replies.

I think it was Carl Jung (it may have been Freud) who went into that whole 'Id' thing and the separation between the self and the Self (with a capital 'S').

It's sort of like the concept of the 'Overmind' or the varying degrees of separation we unnecessarily place between ourselves and what we call 'Brahman'.

See, in the end, Brahman is not even Brahman.

In the Atmashtakam, it is said that the eternal form of Shiva, is beyond Karma and even Moksha (the realisation of Brahman).

Having been indoctrinated in the belief that 'everything besides 'Brahman' is Maya' under the Vedic school of thought, I do try and come to terms with many who tell me 'if you think everything is Illusion, you'll never reach Moksha'...but that totally goes against everything I believe in (even though I can see and understand their point).

I don't know where I am going with this...I tried to answer all the above questions, but ended up creating more....such is Hinduism.

    Namaste.

I totally forgot this thread even existed, so I'm sorry I didn't reply to you months ago.

I actually read those articles in New Scientist Magazine and not online. I just linked them online.

That was on the cover of the magazine those articles came from.

    Aum Namah Shivaya
