I don't deny that Newton did quantify gravity, but that does not mean he understood gravity qualitatively. It's a fallacy to think we have understood something if we can quantify it. The rishis understood the forces of the universe much better than any physicist will ever be able to do. Quantification can bring us to the moon, but qualitative understanding of the universe has brought our purvajas to brahmaloka and beyond.
Ramanujan received his mathematical knowledge from the goddess Namagiri, that is what he himself believed. In way this is similar to how the rishis obtained their wisdom.
