    Bhagvaan

    Pranams,

What is definition of Bhagwaan according to our scriptures ? If there is only one such being , Why do we prefix Bhagwaan before almost every devta and many times self realised saints as well?

    namste Caitanya,

    Bhaga is a Vedic DevatA.
    bhaga भग

Definition: m. good fortune, happiness, welfare, prosperity.
Bhaga is the God of all material things, or the God of Matter itself. We live in His world- a portion of Prithvi (the "greater" world) that is materially dense.

Now there is this mahata (great) form of Lord Bhag, say the VisvaBhag, where He shows us His visva-form where all possibilities, all Gods and everything, is inherent and visible.

But a realization of VisvaBhaga means the process of Evolution, a constant infusing of Sat.

Shri Vishnu is the deity who keeps evolving the modes of working in Bhag's world (as well as in other lOka-s), as and when He wishes.

Finally in VisvaBhaga, Everything becomes Everything, and we say Satayuga is here.

Bhaga has direct lines of communication open to Him with Brahm(/A). In this way Brahm and BrahmA also take on some of Bhag's attributes.

When Asat started in earlier times, it was Lord Shiva Himself who cut off that line of communication. In this way Shiva also came to be associated with Bhaga Deva (though in a bad way).

However, Shri Vishnu doesn't need any "line-of-communication" in order to incarnate into Bhaga. He does so according to His own leelA (play/ whim), and in this way provides succor and uplift to His bhaktagaNa in particular and humanity in general even when circumstances are the darkest.

In Vishnu's avatara, the break in the normal progression of history is so sharp that we say, "miracle has happened".

    BhagavAna:
    The God Incarnate.
As we can see, therefore, it is not proper to use "BhagavAna" for a DevatA other than Shri Vishnu, though as said earlier some other words related to Bhaga can be associated with Brahm, BrahmA and Shiva.

    Shri Ram,
    KT
    Things to remember:

    1. Life = yajña
    2. Depth of Āstika knowledge is directly proportional
to the richness of Sanskrit it is written in
    3. Āstika = Bhārata ("east") / Ārya ("west")
    4. Varṇa = tripartite division of Vedic polity
    5. r = c. x²
    where,
    r = realisation
    constant c = intelligence
    variable x = bhakti
