Great weight is given to the ṣaḍvarga or 6 divisional chart grouping¹. Each one of these divisional ( or varga) charts offers insights and indications of the native in question.
This navaṃśa chart is known ~ in general~ for one's dharma as it is also called the dharmāṃśa. This navaṃśa chart is also known for prārabdha karma or seeds that have been sown previously. This 1/9th divisional chart is also used for mundane matters as one's spouse, interpersonal skills with others i.e. social interactions and the like.
Yet for me, this navaṃśa chart offers the lagnāṃśa¹ and the karakāṃśa lagna that is useful for spiritual calculations. mahāṛṣi jaimini makes maximum use of this navaṃśa chart for many a calculation.

words
- 6 divisional chart group = D1, D2, D3, D9, D12, and D30 charts.
- varga - a separate division , class , set.
- lagnāṃśa is the lagna or ascedent found in the navaṃśa chart .
The confusion (if it can be called so) and has surfaced in modern writings involves the ill-clarified quandary raised by karakamsha-in-navamsha vs karakamsha-in-kshetra varga, orientations!
Some take the former approach (atmakaraka navamsha rising in navamsha chart - orientation), some the latter (atmakaraka navamsha tulya sign rising in D1 chart - orientation), still others, both!
All claim good results with all of these variations! :-(
