    transit of śani

    hariḥ oṁ
    ~~~~~
    namasté
    oṁ prām prīm praum śanaiścārāya namaḥ
    Saturn or śanaiścāra , śani शनि
    On the 2nd of November śanaiścāra enters a new house – scorpio, the natural 8th house. So , 8th house¹ influences will be in order. Also note that the influences for the larger graha-s begin way before they enter a new house. Some say 45-60 days prior to their entry.
    Consider śanaiścārā :
    This śanais शनैस् means quietly , softly , gently , gradually. So we have śanais as gradually, softly + cara चर moving, walking , wondering. Hence śani is considered śanaye kramati sa - the one possessing or containing ~ with the attribute~ (sa) who moves or preceeds ( krama) slowly (śani), quietly (śanais).
    We know it takes śani some 29.7 years to make one complete trip around sūrya, his father - hence the slow moving one. From this we can deduce he owns the last day of the week ( slowest or arriving last).
    He is high in patience, as patience comes with time and steadiness. This patience and steadiness gives way to being deliberate and purposeful. From this we can also see perseverance in difficult times. From this steadiness, one can groom devotion (bhakti).
    Many fear śani for the wrong reasons (IMHO). More on śanaiścāra at this hdf post: http://www.hindudharmaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2941
    To our various students of jyotish, what then can one expect of śani residing in the natural 8th house ?
    praṇām
    1. 8th house; a dusthāna
    • dusthāna-s or duḥ + sthāna. Lets look at the words:
        • duḥ ( or du) - 2nd derivation is defined as pain , or sorrow , afflict , distress ; to burn , consume with fire , cause internal heat
          • The 1st derivation of du is 'to go'. So in jyotiṣ ( jyotish), the 2nd derivation is being applied.
        • sthāna is defined as place of standing or staying , any place , spot , locality , abode , dwelling , house , site . In jyotish this would be considered a house or bhāva
    Re: transit of śani
    Yajvan Ji,
    Let me make an attempt on this!
    Basic traits of Mars,Saturn & Scorpio
    Mars - Fast,Aggression, War, Surgery, Sports, Logical reasoning, Earth, Dictatorship,Blood, Accidents, Violence & Technology etc
    Saturn -Discipline, Slowness, Democracy, Frustration, Bones, Working Class, MassLeader, Steady Change, Old Age, Vairaghya, & Renunciation etc
    Scorpio - WaterySign, Fixed Sign, Female Sign, Sign of Death/Re Birth, Occult Sciences, Hidden Secrets,Secret Affairs, Change, Moksha House etc
    Going one step further… Let’s see the stars that are part ofScorpio…
    1. Visakha 4th Pada - Ruled by Jupiter
    2. Anuradha/ Anusha - Ruled by Saturn
    3. Jyeshta – Ruled by Mercury
    Now Ideally Saturn should be showing its effect as follows.
    1. Saturn in Visakha – Saturn + Mars + Scorpio +Jupiter
    2. Saturn in Anuradha – Saturn + Mars + Scorpio + Saturn
    3. Saturn in Jyeshta - Saturn + Mars + Scorpio +Mercury
    The other key thing we need to consider is the houses aspectedby Saturn which are Makara, Rishabha & Leo. Also Saturn is getting aspectedby an exalted Jupiter for next one year.
    Let me take a break here and I’ll come back on furtherdetails when I get a chance.
    Thanks
    Krishna
