Is it Vedic - śrīgaṇapatyatharvaśīrṣa ?

    **Namaste**

Is Ganesha Atharvashirsham a Vedic Mantra? Also, can be it chanted while the 13 day margi (death) prayers/puja are going on or at the Chapel?

Thanks in advance for your input.

    .
Certainly It's Vedic. It's called as Ganapati Upanishada. It was composed by divine sage Atharva. However Nobody knows for sure when the Atharvashirsha was composed. But it doesn't matter as long as it is not against Vedic principles.
It's a part of longest veda, Atharva veda and it's one of 108 Upanishadas. That Upanishada declares Ganesha as manifestation of Self ( Atma ). " You are Brahma, you are Visnu, you are Rudra, you are Agni, you are Vayu, you are the sun, you are the moon, you are Brahma, bhur-bhuvah "

Another thing ! It is somewhere written in Veda about Creation of Mantras from time to time. For every Yuga , Divine sages adds extra mantras according to conditions of yuga. Many mantras of veda are very old and some are recently introduced in Veda .

Ganesha is often referred as OM. Ganesha is the origin of vishnu, bramh and Maheshwara. He is OM himself. He is Parabramhan beyond Omkar. Akara is Bramha, Ukara is Vishnu and Makara is Maheshwara . Thus he is non different from these Three gods .

    Hare krishna !

H(luv)K is correct (thanks for sharing) that "For every Yuga , Divine sages adds extra mantras according to conditions of yuga".

In fact, this synopsis of his should be published in a book.

    Om Namah Sivaya
