    Guru worship

Is it allowed in Hindu Dharma to revere one's Gurudeva through worshiping His idol / moorti while He is still in His body? Or is it only after the Mahasamadhi of a Guru that it an idol of the Guru can be kept and worshipped on the altar? Is it same with the photograph of the Guru?

    Thanks

    Re: Guru worship

Gurudev can be worshiped with alter or photos irrespective of his physical presence in the mortal world. Ideally he is worshiped in the heart and 100 petaled lotus below crown.

The cache is dont worship Guru"s idol in open places where other non-believer can see. Secondly most important thing is DONT KEEP ANY OTHER IDOLS on the same place as of Guru"s. No deity is worshippable infront of Guru as he is the LORD OF THE LORD.Otherwise lots of troubles will come to you.Its our experienced facts many times.

Kindly give a Good Chair and an umbrella and clothes to him.

    Jayaguru
    Man-naathah Shri Jagan-nathah Mat-guru-shri jagad-guruhu.
Mad-atma sarva-bhutatma tasmai Shri Gurave Namah.

My Lord is the Lord of Universe; My teacher is the teacher of the
entire universe; and my Self is the Self of all. My salutations at the lotus-feet
of such a Guru, who has revealed such knowledge to me.

Puttabharthi Saibaba was revered as 'bhagwan' and many devotees of him worshiped him using his photograph while he was still alive. Another example of a modern day sannyasi who was worshiped as a 'guru' while still alive was Late Sadguru Gnanananda. And also Kanchi Mahaperiyavar.

    Namaste

Guru is Brahma, Guru is Vishnu, Guru is Maheswara Siva.

Here or To the Far Shore, you may worship with Murti, Picture, Shoes, Beads, a Stone, a Cup, the Jyoti, you are ready anytime, with song, you have love for Guru, you may also worship Saint, Mystic, Siddhi, you worship your teacher, you worship your Father and Mother, you worship Mothed Cow and Mother India and Ganga and Guru.

    Ki Jai!

Thanks Anirvan, Eastern Mind and everyone for your valuable inputs. Had heard that scriptures prohibit from making statues/ idols of those saints who are in their physical bodies. So was wondering about it..

Guru is definitely worshipped while still in form. It is my favorite worship to perform!

    Gurusaksat parambrahma tasmai srigurave namah

    Jai Guru!
