    Useful Tamil/Dravida Spiritual Words-LEXICON

    Namaste,

In discussions related to Sri Vaishnava tradition and Shaiva Siddhanta, often certain Tamil terms appear.I think it would be nice to have a post for Tamil lexicon.I am starting with a few words,I request members to contribute.

    -EmperumAn-Em(Our)+Peruman(Lord/God)=Our Lord

    -NamperumAl-Nam(Our)+Perumal(Lord/God)=Our Lord

    -Amman/thAyAr/AmbAl=Mother Goddess

    -Koil/Kovil=Temple

    -Thirumanjanam=Thiru(Holy/Beautiful)+Snanam/Abhishekam Seva=Celestial bathing offering

    -Thiruvadi-Thiru+Adi(Feet)=Lotus Feet of the Lord

-aDiyAr-Daasa=Sincere devotees of the Lord's lotus feet

-aDiyen-(I'm)your servant = Servants of the Lord's sincere Devotees

Note: used instead of 'I','me' and 'mine' but not in a self-deprecatory manner but with humility to get rid to ego= Us

-Kainkaryam=Seva to the Lord(act of offering some Upachara)

I request members to forgive if there are any translation errors.

    Namaste

Please move this nice thread to scriptures or better -- we have a special section on Lexicons -- Nagari -- created by Yajvanji. Satay knows where it is. The section was made for saMskRt but Tamil is also important considering so many devotional literary works are in TamiL.
