Thread: Thinking about karma again

    Re: Thinking about karma again

    Namaste Kismit,

I hope that my posting can be of some interest to you, it is justramblings, I am thrilled if they can be of interest.

Imagine the mood existing as a cloud of karma already there before you enter it, this is not your mind nor is it generated by your mind, we move into this cloud by means of the unfolding of time.
There may be 1000 different ways in which we could act due to this cloud of mood; 900 of them are a result of going along with that mood, 100 of them are a result of self awareness.
You have a much higher probability of a certain type of thing happening than another, if you are concious of this play of the guna. It is you that calms the out come, rather than the cloud of mood driving you.

Can you appreciate a great moment, for what it is? With out becoming overly excited and involved; attached to the high?

To my mind, conciousness of ones mental state and the ability to change ones mental state; does affect the outcome of any event.

I am of course being very over simplistic by calling this a cloud of mood, it really is a continuous fluctuation of mental states. Of which, many are deeply entangled with others. A veritable tapestry of conciousness.

It is no longer "Me" or "I" but the cloud that caused the event but It was knowledge of that cloud that stopped me from doing something.

Doing becomes different yet free will is still the same. It is our perception of action that has changed.

We are at the helm of the ship but we are not the propulsion nor the weather.

When we do in this way, we become more aware of the subtitle patterns that awareness of these clouds bring. sometimes, just sometimes, we may believe for a moment that we are in sync with a greater rhythm and we become aware of synchronous events. Yet still these happenings are part of larger clouds, that we barely perceive as moving. You know how the sky becomes with different layers of clouds moving at different speeds; some times in differing directions.

I am rambling now, for that I apologise. I only hope that I have managed to transmit a little of what I am trying so poorly to portray.

This does not require a great deal of illustration. Say someone murdered in a past life, and must bear the result of that, being murdered himself in the next. One’s fate in that instance is sealed. One has to be murdered by necessity of eternal law. But, in the following incarnation, that same person is murdered by a murderer – who we ourselves assume had the free will either to go through with the act or deny himself that criminal course of action! Had he not murdered, we would applaud his moral fortitude, and yet justice would not be fulfilled in terms of the guilty party. On the other hand, had he murdered, we would scorn him and heap condemnation on his head, justice however being, on the sly as it were, totally fulfilled.

Here is how I have thought of solving this conundrum. We are free, but only at the timeless “Moment” of death, and with the onset of time we choose a possible world, out of the infinitely many, in which our necessary karma phala will come to fruition according to the non-compulsory actions of certain individuals who, either directly or indirectly, by a causal relationship either harm or benefit us. Thus, the “life-script” and everything in it, is already written. We all chose this world together, in congruity with all our desires and the combined vasanas which form our current material body-mind complex. And, while we are indeed partially on a necessary track due to the impressions received through former experiences, creating the “grid” as it were on which this life is led, our own free choices will be responsible for the future karma of others as well as ourselves.

I’ve also thought of a perfect analogy for this. Say that our soul, in its capacity to be free, is like a growing shore wave arising from the indeterminate motions of the lake. Before it reaches a certain pitch all it amounts to is a set of quantum probabilities. But, once it picks up enough steam in the form of momentum, it rapidly ascends the sandy shore, and its balled foaminess becomes splayed across the sand in various definite shapes. First existed freedom, then it transformed itself into its opposite, necessity. Just so, death gives way to life. Pure spirit molds itself onto the features of matter and actuates it into creative frenzy.

Yes, it is one of many possibilities that this could happen. I will say that lessons can be abstract or clear as day...sometimes it just boggles my mind how intricately this machine is designed. Although, I doubt a bad dream would ever be adequate to deal with a truly adharmic act such as murder. Maybe for kicking a puppy though.

Another very great possibility in the murder situation above is that you would be born again and have someone whom is the Love of your life....your very life...die by murder...a murder which gave you a loss...the same sort of loss you gave another group of Portions in that previous act of murdering their loved one.

For as many Portions that have and will dwell in this realm, there are equally as many outcomes.

But you're right, some keen observation and looking back in the rearview mirror at the past may allow you to piece some portions of karma together.

As one who was born and then suffered immediate abuse I can tell you that some karma comes back so very quickly. The harder you hit something...the more tremendous and swift the smack back.

Well, from my pov, that still does not resolve the difficulty. Because, even if your own mind is responsible for various effects, those effects are still "out there" and touch on the field of activity of others. So again, if you end up getting run over by a truck, or if you become irritable due to some computer malfunction another party is responsible for, you cannot pin the blame solely on your former 'moods.' Your moods, actions, vasanas and so forth may have been the necessitating causes bringing these effects about, but they (the effects) also depend by and large on the free will decisions of other beings. So the drunk trucker, or the absentminded assembly line worker, are as equally at fault as your mind for bringing those events to fruition.

It just isn't enough to say "oh, well, karma is such a complex system of transaction that we can't say anything about it." Even if it is complicated, the question does arise: "How do you settle with those agents involved in the 'knitting' of karma, and where do their choices come from?" I say they come from a field of raw possibility, which then allocates itself into a given possible world to be actualized.

Yes, each of us have our own list of things to get done...only so many outcomes. But the Universe of Beloved is very fluid, which is why we have so many possible outcomes.

So one way or another, the lesson will be learned.

You ever seen someone so wracked with a certain bad luck? They keep saying "God why me???"

But, from your better vantage point you can clearly see they make the same sort of mistake over and over again. You may even try to help them see that cycle...but if one is not ready...the lesson is missed and they continue to get smacked until one lone day arrive and they say...."WoW I get it!"

Then bam! The lesson moves past them and another thing looms on the horizon.

    *gulp*
