    US Congressman talks to Indians

    Namaste,

Hilarious! During the course of congressional hearings, an uninformed US congressman talks to two Indo-American US Govt. officials as if they were some officials representing the Indian Govt. Notice the old man can hardly contain his laughter.

I could go on a rant about the US government's lack of competency, but I'll do this instead.

Re: US Congressman talks to Indians

    Namaste,

    Was it?

Just to set the background - for congressional hearings, people don't just walk off the street and participate. Only the select people who are in some way involved with the issues are invited and escorted to the hearings for questioning. So, the congressional hearing committee members should know who they is going to be talking to, what their roles are in relation to the issues at hand, what to expect from them and what to ask for. There is general perception that the Republicans don't think non-caucasians are quite capable of holding important jobs in the Govt. and are rarely appointed by Republican presidents in high profile jobs. Things have been different under Obama and quite a few people from diverse ethnic backgrounds have been appointed to, or have found the opportunity to serve in various senior Govt. positions. In the case of this congressman, either he is too dumb to not know that Indian Govt. reps don't show up at the congressional hearings to testify, or he had trouble believing that people of Indian descent sitting in front of him were indeed high level US Govt. officials and not reps of the Govt. of India. And why would reps of Govt. of India come to a US congressional hearing? On top of all that, I think this congressman is a tea party candidate, who are trouble makers. So, he does not get a break on his gaffe. Some day, may be the republicans will become more accommodating of different ethnic groups. Right now they have come to accept some who have become bible thumpers - Bobby and Nicki. Hope that puts things in the proper perspective.
