    I need your advice

    Hi people,

I am a french canadian who has an Indian mentor. He is an amazing person and I would like to offer him a meaningful gift that would show that I respect his culture.

On his computer screen, he has a card of Sri Oppiliappan (Uppiliappan Koil). I know he is from southern India and that might be a hint to his religion.

I come here for advice because I know religious gifts are tricky. I would like to offer him something that, for his religion, means he will be recognized for all the good he has done in his life. Now, maybe there is a deity in his religion that help him receive that acknowledgement, I have no clue.

Maybe I can offer him an object that has been or is sanctified, I don't know either. All I know is that I want it to be meaningful.

Can you guys give me guidance?

Thank you and the best day to all of you

    Namaste,

I can say these things on the basis of information provided by you :

    1. He is a Hindu.
    2. He is a Vaishnava devotee.

===> So, you can gift him Murti of Lord Venkateshvara or Goddess Laxmi etc.

Our South Indian friends can suggest better gifts.

Vannakkam: You could take him here... http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/67/16315...urant-Montreal

or you could get him a framed picture of Venkateswara, although he most likely already has one. Some quality incense, maybe. Good luck with it.

    Namaste

I totally agree with the options given by Devotee ji.

This temple is one of the 108 revered places (Divya Desam) as per Sri Vaishnavam. My hunch is the person you have described is following Sri Vaishnava branch of Vaishnava sect and he is from Tamil Nadu.

For a (Tamil) Sri Vaishnava Naalaira Divya Prabandam is a revered text. Several hymn from Naalaira Divya Prabandam are sung in these Divya Desa temples.

It is considerd as Tamil version of Veda . If I were him would loved to be gifted with a Naalaira Divya Prabandam book.
