A tribute to Religious TV/Movie actors

    Namaskaaram:

Aah. Mayabazaar is extremely good especially when you are/watching with kids. The song and the general scene of Ghatotkacha messing with Duryodhana's son.

Mayabazaar was my childhood favorite and especially the song - Kalyana samayal sadham where Gadotkach gobbles up delicious food. Entirely fictional
Ha ha. I still would like to think that it is not fictional.

I feel that we Hindus are very fortunate to be a part of a religion that is so festive, entertaining and yet full of wisdom as opposed to other relgions which are morose, serious and often disturbing.
... So true. we can actually be picky about the bhaava, rasa and language and still end up with many choices.

There are many more - I am enjoying this now. For those who have not seen (but would like to see) MS Subbulakshmi in movies, skip to #4 first. She is simply superb as Meera.

    1. Chakradhaari (story of Shri Gora Kumhaar - bhakt of Shri Panduranga). I have seen the Tamil version where you can never guess that the actors are Tamil (except when they speak, of course). I am surprised to see that there are at least 2 other versions by the same name, one in Telugu and one in Hindi. All available on youtube.

    2. Tiruvarutchelvcar (Collection of stories of Shiva bhaktas): This is Tamil - again available on youtube. Shivaji Ganeshan in multiple roles.

    3. Karnan - Tamil/Telugu - with NTR as Krishna (in youtube) and Shivaji Ganeshan as Karna. Following is when Krishna goes to ask for land for pandavas. The sharp and witty dialogues are great "ange thalai irukkum podu vaal adaadhu". Unfortunately, it is in Tamil. But, NTR and Shivaji are unbeatable and flow into the characters.

    4. Mirabai: With MS Subbulakshmi. I prefer this to the one with Hema Malini. There are both - Hindi and Tamil versions. She is simply brilliant. Each song is amazing.

Here are two clips from the Hindi version

I watched Sri AdiShankaracharya, the Sanskrit movie in YT.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxFDypkKjDk

The voice is clear but the picture quality is poor - in many scenes where there is some darkness, the faces are totally unclear.

I don't know why the director is totally biased against the miracles done by Sri AdiShankaracharya - the most important ones including the raining of golden gooseberries upon his recitation of Kanakadhara Stotram, Lord Shiva giving darshan after Sri AdiShankara sings a hymn in praise of the chandala blocking his way in Kashi, and disciple Padmapada stepping on a fresh bloomed Lotus as he crosses the Ganges are all missing. The episodes are being narrated but without any miracle following suit. I found this quite disappointing! But thank goodness, the mountain Lion killing Kabalika is preserved.

Other than that, the cast for Shankaracharya, both as the little boy and grown up young man is fantastic. I also liked Sri Shankaracharya's mother, the lady had a beautiful, kind smile as her face was shown several times in the movie. The setting and the backgrounds had been very good too. Overall, I did not feel the time flying by as I watched the 2 1/2 hr movie. A good movie.
