Thread: Navamsa chart indicates 2nd half of Life?

  1. Navamsa chart indicates 2nd half of Life?

    Dear friends,

I have heard astrologers mention that the Navamsa chart indicates the 2nd half of ones life. I am wondering if my dear learned friends here can explain this a little more.

I am 44 years at the moment so I guess I am heading into the second half of my life. Also I want a career change. In my Rasi chart I have Venus, Saturn and Rahu in the 10th house, but in the Navamsa chart I have Sun in my 10th house. So should I be looking at the 10th house Sun in the Navamsa to determine what sort of career I should choose going forward? If a more wholistic investigation of the chart is required my birth data is as follows:
    DOB: February 28th 1969
    Time: 2.42pm
    Place: Colombo, Sri Lanka

    Thank you!

Mahāṛṣi (mahārishi) parāśara offers 16 divisional charts for the jyotiṣa to consider. The navaṃśa chart or 1/9th divisional chart is one of the 16 and fits in the grouping called the ṣaḍvarga or 6 divisional chart grouping¹. Each one of these divisonal ( or varga) charts offers insights and indications of the native in question.

This navaṃśa chart is known ~ in general~ for one's dharma as it is also called the dharmāṃśa. If this is so then it is an indicator for all of one's life - not just the 1st of 2nd half. This navaṃśa chart is also known for prārabdha karma or seeds that have been sown previously. This 1/9th divisual chart is also used for mundane matters as one's spouse, interpersonal skills with others i.e. social interations and the like.
Yet for me, this navaṃśa chart offers the lagnāṃśa¹ and the karakāṃśa lagna that is useful for spiritual calculations. mahāṛṣi jaimini makes maximum use of this navaṃśa chart for many a calculation.

    Namaste Yajvanji,

Thank you for that explanation. I see your point about dharmamsa being an indicator for one's entire life. But are there any elements of the Navamsa chart that become more prominent as you evolve on your spiritual journey?

    Namaste Jetavanji

I have worked in a number of areas in the past -- possibly due to my 10th house falling in pisces?

    These include:
    • The banking sector (Saturns influence?)
    • Aviation industry (Rahu's influence?)
    • Consultancy specialising in the agriculture sector (Saturn's influence?)
    • Fashion and garment industry (Venus inflrunce?)

Currently I work in environmental management for a Hydro electricity company (Saturn = Environmental management?; Venus/Pisces = use of water resources?; Rahu = electricity?)

I want to move away from the corporate sector and work for myself in a more creative carreer. Perhaps start a business retailing women's accessories as my Venus maha dasha will be starting soon this September. But I am confused as to look for guidance in my Rasi chart or Navamsa chart.

Any insights will be much appreciated.

Yes, there is. This is done via the dṛg ( drig) daśā system. This is a system that looks at ones life from a spiritual point of view. So what is this dṛg ? It is when the Supreme wishes to view/see the individual soul. It is a progression of dharma starting from the 9th house¹ to various times in one's life.
The 9th house is considered bhāgya or fate, destiny, good fortune and the like but since the 9th is a dharma house, it is those benefits that arise via dharma. So consider the dṛg daśā system those times of spiritual illumination that may be indicated i.e. insights, śaktipat, dīkṣā, meeting the guru, and the like.

So if this dṛg daśā system has much to do with dharma, then the dharmāṃśa must too play a role. We know from the post above that the dharmāṃśa = navaṃśa chart or 1/9th divisional chart aforementioned.

Now for the diserning jyotiṣa of this post , one will find the dṛg daśā system to be closely related to the narāyaṇa daśā. Both have a maximum daśā period of 12 years per division for a total of 12 x 12 = 144 years possible. Yet these sub-periods may be fractions of this 12 year period.

So, why say this yajvan ? Because the start and stop periods may repeat and therefore 2 cycles may occur within one's life. Hence one may say there is a 2nd cycle in the second half of this native's life.

    By example :
Let's say one is born today the 9th of June 2013:
The 1st period ( consisting of 12 periods ) begins today and ends
in January 2072 for a time frame of 59 years. Then the cycle
starts again with another cycle, same sequence as the 1st cycle
and continues in the 59th year to 2157, or a total of 144 total possible
    years.

Here is the 1st cycle, and this then just repeats for the 2nd cycle.
(The letters on the left is the major periods, indented are the sub-periods).
Note the major period starts in Capricorn, then Sagittarius, then Scorpio, etc)

Thank you Yajvan Ji. That is indeed fascinating. I must read up more on this drig dasa system....

There are very few on this good earth that have mastered the usability of the dṛg ( drig) daśā system and the narāyaṇa daśā system. Note this is NOT code to suggest I have. I am a simple śiṣya (student) of this most profound knowledge; I do not even claim 1 iota¹ of mastering this wisdom , so I continue to learn; what other alternatives do we have but to learn and keep interested ?

Some say it is best to understand the vimśottari daśā system and get to know it the best one can. If one does the math
we will find that the vimśottari daśā system will apply ~ 75% of the time, and the aṣṭottarī daśā system ~ 25% of the time.

Yet it is like a tool box, the more tools one has the more one can build.

    iti śivaṁ

    1. iota ~ the slightest amount.

    Greetings,

Your lagnesha (Mercury) is in 8th house, Capricorn. Lagnesha should indicate tendencies that are present (on some level) throughout life. Does the 8th house or its significations play a role in your plan for a women's accessories retail business?

    Greetings Jetavan Ji,

My apologies for the late reply. I have been away for a while...

To answer your question, I don't think the 8th house has any direct relationship to women's fashion. But I must say your question has got me thinking....I have lot's of interests related to the 8th house significations. I love to delve into mysteries, I am always fascinated by the hidden / the unseen etc. I love working with tools that provide personal trasformation (death of the old self and birth of the new) This is why I am interested in astrology, and I am currently studying under a psychic to learn divination using the cartouche cards, which I think is very 8th house! I have also studied a number of healing modalities for healing and transformational work. Matrix energetics is one such modality. So dear Jetavan ji you have given me some very valuable insight into what it is that I should be pursuing.

To further confirm my conclusion I asked for a dream in which I should be shown the type of work I should be doing. The dream I was shown was that I saw myself walking into a field with gentle slopes that spiralled into its center and there was something mysterious about this field, it seemed to be buzzing with energy. I believe the field in my dream represented the "zero point field" or the "matrix" which is what the Matrix Energetic practioners work with. So in other words I should look to doing transformational therapy / energy work as a career.

    Many thanks for this insight.
