    Ayuh and Ayur

    Vanakkam,

    Please teach me

    Is Ayuh and ayur is different ?

    Then why ayuh (long life) is also mean health ? Because in this world, we have see a peoples who life long (maybe 90 years) but they life with illness, maybe cancer, or heart problem, or they dont have hand, or they cant walk (this is about long life peoples not always health).
    And why ayuh is also associate with "no calamities" ?

    Thank you

    āyus = life , vital power , vigour , health , duration of life , long life
    ved = knowledge
    āyurved is āyus + veda = the knowledge of life , vital power , vigour , health .
    With this knowledge long life is possible.

    Let's take a look at the word you have offered:

    āyu is a living being, also meaning mobile. This word also can mean to seize , take possession of. And if used as a neuter gender we could spell it āyus meaning duration of life but does not imply long life.

    .. hope this assists you in your understanding.
