Re: A Personal Hindu Library
Namaskar,
Library can be accessed from http://www.hindudharmaforums.com/library.html
Also, if anyone wants to download the original zip file (instead of requesting via email), it can be downloaded from
http://www.hindudharmaforums.com/00index.zip
However, there are a few things I should mention:
a) I modified the page text and title a little bit and included saidevo's name and some copyright text
b) The links beside the download text don't work because the files are not actually hosted on HDF server. Saidevo, you may want to revisit this and just point these links to the actual source of the book. I know that this work was meant for 'local' library once one downloads the books to his/her computer and in that case those links would work. However, because the page is now on the HDF server and the files are not, those links are not working.
If, however, someone downloads the zip file to their local computer, then those links would work fine.
Thanks,

1. The path to the location of the files in the host computer is automatically added by the browser. There is nothing that we can do to change this.
2. Therefore, to make the links automatically point to the locations in the user's computer, the user needs to do these two things by way of setting up:
-- Create two folders BooksHindu01 and BooksHindu02 under Root or any other folder in the user's computer.
-- Unzip the 00index.html file to the BooksHindu01 folder; and the links would point correctly.
For the benefit of users here are the full set of guidelines for setting up the library:
*********************************************************
Guidelines for Setting up 'My Personal Hindu Library'
*********************************************************
1. Create two folders named BooksHindu01 and BooksHindu02, either under the Root folder of a volume of your PC's hard disk (such as C:\) or at another location. Both these newly created folders should be under the same parent folder.
2. Unzip/move the 00index.html file to the BooksHindu01 folder.
3. Open the 00index.html file using a Web Browser such as the Internet Explorer or Opera.
4. If you have already downloaded any Hindu books found here, you may move them to the BooksHindu01 and BooksHindu02 folders (renaming any files as necessary), using the HTML file for guidance. (If you place the mouse pointer on a link in the HTML file opened, that will indicate the folder name in the status line of the browser.)
5. Use the read links to open and read the Hindu book or booklet. Some of these links point to online Websites. Use the download link to download any book you are interested. The sizes of the book files are indicated for an idea of its approximate download time under the Internet connection you have. To download a HTML file link, simply use the browser's 'Save as...' option to save the file in the appropriate folder and name.
6. In some cases the file of the book would have been renamed, so when you download a book, compare the names given in the read and download links and rename the downloaded book file to the name given in the read link.
7. If you download every book and booklet in the HTML file, the total volume of your library will be over 1100 titles with a total size of 4.17 GB in the BooksHindu01 folder and 3.58 GB in the BooksHindu02 folder.
8. You may find the Opera Web browser more convenient than the IE, as it opens the pdf files under the Adobe reader instead of as a plug-in in a browser window.
When using Opera, just right-click on a read link and select the 'Open' option from the context-sensitive menu displayed and then Open again from the dialog box that pops up. To download, right-click on the download link and select the 'Save target as...' option from the context-sensitive menu.
9. The 00index.html file as displayed in the browser looks colorful and attractive, though it has no images or external style sheets linked to it. Creating such HTML files is rather easy with embedded and inline style specifications. It would be interesting to go through the source lines of the HTML file and try your hand at creating your own HTML files.

Re: A Personal Hindu Library
Here are some more books for our Library:
VOICE OF THE GURU PUJYASRI CHANDRASEKHARENDRA SARASWATI SWAMI - HINDU DHARMA - The Universal Way of Life
http://www.scribd.com/doc/5339801/Hi...miji-of-Kanchi (3.1 MB)
Published by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, it is an English translation of (parts of?) 'Deivatthin Kural' in 826 pages!
After the Website page loads, the book can be downloaded using the Download button and selecting the pdf format. This would take sometime to load the book in pdf format in the Browser window. It can then be saved as a pdf file using the 'Save As' option.
